Portuguese lawyers are disciplined for 'working too hard'
A local lawyer explained how toxic the Portuguese ‘work’ culture is.
(This lawyer has English parents and grew up in Portugal.)
She joined a Lisbon law firm and was told off for:
Staying late working
Being ‘too productive’
Picking up the phone every time it rung
Apparently this put unfair pressure on her colleagues to also work hard.
She was told, ‘Don’t pick up the phone every time, let it ring out’.
She then realised they printed off lots of reports, which was unneccessary, as they had an archive in the basement. However, this archive was disorganised. She decided to organise it so everyone could use it.
She was told off for being too organised.
She quit.
Anyone with this anti-productivity attitude deserves to be poor.
If they can’t pay their rent: good.
This means capitalism works perfectly.
